Insulin and Diabetes Mellitus
Diabetes mellitus is one of the most common
diseases of the Western world, occurring in
about 1–2% of the population. The blood sugar
is abnormally elevated due to a variety of
causes, including genetic factors. With time,
this leads to numerous complications, such as
myocardial infarction, stroke, renal failure,
vascular damage leading to amputation, and
blindness.
