Familial hypercholesterolemia (FH) is a hereditary
disorder of intracellular lipid metabolism.
Several different genetic forms exist, each
characterized by the step of the metabolic pathway
involved and the type of mutation. Mixed
forms, caused bymultigenic and environmental
factors, and monogenic forms can be distinguished.
